Red light district
beyond the curtains
The Red light district is one of the most complex areas in Amsterdam where different ideals and visions clash and co-exist. Our mission is to give some of these special initiatives, people and places a moment to speak for themselves. Who are they? What do they do? What does the Red light District mean to them? How do they see themselves contributing to a ‘better Amsterdam’ and how do they want to create a positive impact?
On this Walk & Talk in the Red Light District you can visit the a neighborhood initiative ‘We Live Here’, and learn about their ideas for a ‘green light district’. You can check out the Prostitution Information Center and meet the people behind the Upcycle, a shop that introduces you to the power of upcycling.
Explore where our ideas around sex come from. We’ll look into the long history of the Red Light District and the complexities of Prostitution. Besides all the regular information about the Red Light District we will share our pioneering vision for the future of this area with you.
